THE LOVE HYPOTHESIS: BOOK REVIEW

"I wish you could see yourself the way I see you." Book title: The Love Hypothesis Author: Ali Hazelwood Genre: Fiction, Contemporary Romance Overall rating: 4.5/5 As a third-year Ph.D. candidate, Olive Smith doesn't believe in lasting romantic relationships - but her best friend does, and that's exactly what got her into this situation. Where do I begin? Get Ali Hazelwood a damn prize because she created two characters who felt so real and who I cared for so quickly. To say I was invested is an understatement. I found Olive to be loveable, sweet, and a woman of integrity. And Dr. Adam Carlsen ... a true king. Grumpy with quiet confidence yet oh so kind to out heroine, charmed by her and unwittingly charming toward her, it's all very much a YES for me. Ali Hazelwood gave these two the time and attention deserved and gave the reader a really natural-feeling contemporary rom-com, while touching on relevant issues in the STEM community. REMINDERS OF HIM: BOOK REVIEW

"It was a stark realization that no matter how much you love someone, you can still do despicable things to them."

Book title: Reminders of Him

Author: Colleen Hoover

Genre: Contemporary romance, Domestic fiction

Overall rating: 5/5

Love her - Hate her - but you can't ignore Colleen Hoover as a presence amongst contemporary romance authors of this generation.

Reminders of Him is no different- the author stays in her comfort zone albeit creating a central protagonist who is treading on a path that is bound to have polarizing effects. I will keep the summary brief to avoid any spoilers. Kenna returns to the town she has left after serving a sentence taking responsibility for a calamitous event that occurred 5 years ago. She returns to repair relationships and build a new one with the only piece of Scotty, her ex-boyfriend, she has left. She unexpectedly connects with Ledger who is sharing in her grief and may be the connection to her missing piece. They must navigate their feelings and decide what is right and what is best for everyone involved.

What follows is a path of redemption and reunion with lots of soppy romance thrown in for good measure.

Reminders of Him is a bitter-sweet read.

The introduction of music into the narrative is a good touch.

"Music still makes me think of Scotty, but thinking of Scotty no longer makes me sad. Now that I've forgiven myself, the reminders of him only make me smile."

We all need a Ledger to our Kenna. Not only the romance they had, but most importantly, the understanding, comfort and the fight he fought with Kenna, we need that. Someone who'll win for us when we're already drained from all the losses, someone who'll listen when all ears are gone, someone who'll believe on our side of the story and in us in whole.

Overall, the tension she builds for the eventual reunion and the finale are the major highlights.
